Quantum phase transition in CeCoIn 5 : Experimental facts and theory

Abstract The condensed-matter community is involved in a hot debate on the nature of quantum critical points (QCP) governing the low-temperature properties of heavy fermion metals. The smeared jump-like behavior revealed both in the residual resistivity and the Hall resistivity R H , along with the violation of the time invariance symmetry and the charge invariance , include the violation of quasiparticle-hole symmetry, and provide vital clues on the origin of both the non-Fermi-liquid behavior and QCP. For the first time, based on a number of important experimental data, we show that these experimental observations point out unambiguously that QCP of is accompanied by the symmetry violation, and QCP itself is represented by the topological fermion-condensation quantum phase transition (FCQPT) connecting two Fermi surfaces of different topological charges.

Effect of superconductivity on the shape of flat bands

Abstract For the first time, basing both on experimental facts and our theoretical consideration, we show that Fermi systems with flat bands should be tuned with the superconducting state. Experimental measurements on magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene of the Fermi velocity V F as a function of the temperature T c of superconduction phase transition have revealed , where N s (0) is the density of states at the Fermi level. We show that the high- T c compounds exhibit the same behavior. Such observation is a challenge to theories of high- T c superconductivity, since V F is negatively correlated with T c , for . We show that the theoretical idea of forming flat bands in strongly correlated Fermi systems can explain this behavior and other experimental data collected on both and twisted bilayer graphene. Our findings place stringent constraints on theories describing the nature of high- T c superconductivity and the deformation of flat band by the superconducting phase transition.

Ultra spin liquid in Lu 3 Cu 2 Sb 3 O 14

Abstract We analyze recent measurements of C / T , specific heat C divided by temperature T , of a recently observed ultra spin liquid. The measurements are carried out in magnetic fields on the triangular lattice compound . We show that the obtained heat capacity formed by the ultra spin liquid as a function of temperature T vs. magnetic field B behaves very similar to the electronic specific heat of the HF metal and the quantum magnet . We demonstrate that the effective mass of spinon exhibits the universal scaling coinciding with scaling observed in heavy-fermion (HF) metals and in . Based on these observations we conclude that a strongly correlated spin liquid determines the thermodynamic properties of the ultra spin liquid of .

Exchange Forces in Dispersion Relations Investigated Using Circuit Relations

We propose a novel method to compute in an exact manner the left-hand cut discontinuity of the electron-Atom partial wave scattering amplitude in the complex energy plane within the static stage approximation. Zero energy dispersion relations for electron-Hydrogen scattering are computed numerically for illustration.

Differential electron scattering cross sections for the 3 (2)S to 3 (2)P0 h, k transitions in Mg II - Comparison of experiment and theory

Angular differential electron scattering cross sections are reported for the unresolved inelastic 3s (2)S to 3p (2)P0 h, k transitions in Mg II for the first time. Relative differential cross sections have been measured at 35 eV and 50 eV in the angular range of Theta between 6 and 17 deg using the newly developed electron energy loss technique in a crossed electron-ion beam geometry. Theoretical values have been calculated in a five-state close-coupling approximation in which 3s, 3p, 3d, 4s, and 4p states were included, and to which measurements were normalized at Theta = 12 deg.

Angular distribution for electron excitation of the 4(2)S yields 4(2)P transition in Zn II - Comparison of experiment and theory

Differential electron-scattering cross sections for inelastic excitation of an ion have been measured for the first time. Experiments were carried out in a cross electron-ion beam geometry for the 4(2)S yields 4(2)P transition in Zn II at 75 eV. In addition, differential cross sections were calculated at energies between 15 and 100 eV in a five-state close-coupling approximation in which 4s, 4p, 3d(9)4s(2), 5s, and 4 d states were included. Agreement in shape between theory and experiment at 75 eV is excellent.
