Logarithmic criticality in transverse thermoelectric conductivity of the ferromagnetic topological semimetal CoMnSb

Here we report the results of our experimental studies on the magnetic, transport, and thermoelectric properties of the ferromagnetic metal CoMnSb. A sizable anomalous Hall conductivity $σ_{yx}$ and transverse thermoelectric conductivity $α_{yx}$ are found experimentally and comparable in size to the values estimated from first-principles calculation. Our experiment further reveals that CoMnSb exhibits -T log T critical behavior in $α_{yx}$ (T), deviating from Fermi liquid behavior $α_{yx}$ ~ T over a decade of temperature between 10 and 400 K, similar to ferromagnetic Weyl and nodal-line semimetals. Our theoretical calculation for CoMnSb also predicts the - T log T behavior when the Fermi energy locates near the Weyl nodes in momentum space.

X-ray study of ferroic octupole order producing anomalous Hall effect

Recently found anomalous Hall, Nernst, magnetooptical Kerr, and spin Hall effects in the antiferromagnets Mn 3 X (X = Sn, Ge) are attracting much attention for spintronics and energy harvesting. Since these materials are antiferromagnets, the origin of these functionalities is expected to be different from that of conventional ferromagnets. Here, we report the observation of ferroic order of magnetic octupole in Mn 3 Sn by X-ray magnetic circular dichroism, which is only predicted theoretically so far. The observed signals are clearly decoupled with the behaviors of uniform magnetization, indicating that the present X-ray magnetic circular dichroism is not arising from the conventional magnetization. We have found that the appearance of this anomalous signal coincides with the time reversal symmetry broken cluster magnetic octupole order. Our study demonstrates that the exotic material functionalities are closely related to the multipole order, which can produce unconventional cross correlation functionalities.

Importance of dynamic lattice effects for crystal field excitations in the quantum spin ice candidate Pr 2 Zr 2 O 7

We explore dynamic interactions between the crystal lattice and magnetic degrees of freedom in a frustrated magnetic system using the example of a pyrochlore quantum spin-ice candidate Pr 2 Zr 2 O 7 . Using Raman scattering spectroscopy we demonstrate that crystal electric field excitations of Pr3+, which define the magnetic properties of Pr 2 Zr 2 O 7 , cannot be understood within a model of a static lattice. We identify vibronic interactions with a phonon which lead to a splitting of a doublet crystal field excitation at around 55 meV. We also observe an unconventional behavior of a splitting of the non-Kramers ground state doublet of Pr 3+ , revealed by observing excitations to the first excited singlet state $E$$^{0}_{g}$ → A 1 g at around 10 meV. The splitting has a strong temperature dependence, where the doublet structure is most prominent between 50 and 100 K, and the weight of one of the components strongly decreases on cooling contrary to simple thermal population tendency. Furthermore, we suggest a static or dynamic deviation of Pr 3+ from the position in the ideal crystal structure can be the origin of the effect, with the deviation strongly decreasing at low temperatures.
