Predictive Contaminant Transport Simulation with P2R Model for the Composite Analysis Limited Source Sensitivity Case.

The Plateau to River (P2R) is a groundwater flow and contaminant fate and transport (F&T) simulation model used to support remedial activities conducted by the Central Plateau Cleanup Company at the Hanford Site in Washington State. Figure 1 illustrates the P2R Model extents, discretization, and boundary conditions. The P2R Model is utilized in the Composite Analysis (CA) for the Hanford Site as the computational engine for computing F&T predictions as described in CP-60406, Hanford Site Composite Analysis Technical Approach Description: Groundwater. The model simulates contaminants of concern within the saturated zone of the uppermost aquifer beneath the Central Plateau and downgradient to the Columbia River. CP-57037, Model Package Report for the Plateau to River Model Version 8.3 documents the current version of the P2R Model including a description of the conceptual site model, model development and calibration, and limitations to the model application. Simulations conducted to support the dose calculations required by the CA are documented in ECF-HANFORD-19-0119, Predictive Flow Simulation with the P2R Model for the Composite Analysis Base Case and ECF-HANFORD-19-0120, Contaminant Transport Simulation with the P2R Model for the Composite Analysis Base Case.

Mapping the Concentration Distribution of Contaminant Plumes to the Computational Grid of the Plateau to River Model (Ver. 8.3)

This environmental calculation file (ECF) outlines the process conducted for defining the initial condition groundwater plumes for select contaminants of interest (COIs) to the Plateau River model version 8.3 (P2Rv8.3) domain (CP-57037, Model Package Report: Plateau to River Groundwater Model Version 8.3). Various data sources were combined into a single set of files defining plume conditions at time 1/1/2018. The resulting files are intended for use as inputs for transport modeling to support forecasts of the Central Plateau contaminant plume fate and transport.

Model Package Report: Plateau to River Groundwater Model Version 8.3

This model package report documents the groundwater flow component of the Plateau to River Groundwater Model (P2R Model), which is a groundwater flow and contaminant fate and transport (F&T) simulation model used to support remedial activities conducted by CH2M HILL Plateau Remediation Company at the Hanford Site in Washington State. The objective of this report is to describe the modeling objectives, conceptualization, model implementation, calibration, sensitivity, uncertainty, configuration control, limitations, and future model enhancements of the groundwater flow component of the P2R Model.

Calculation of Moisture-Dependent, Anisotropic Parameters Supporting the Hanford Site's Composite Analysis, Cumulative Impact Evaluation, and Performance Assessments

Variable, moisture (tension) dependent anisotropy (MDA) in unsaturated soils is an effective, large-scale (macroscopic) flow property that results from media heterogeneities at a smaller scale. The purpose of this environmental calculation file (ECF) is to document the variable MDA calculations using a script routine. The accuracy of the script calculations are cross-checked against results using other software. Appendices for this ECF are Appendix A, which documents supporting script use; Appendix B, which provides supporting spreadsheet calculations; and Appendix C, which provides supporting utility calculations. The work is in support of vadose zone flow and transport models used in performance assessment (PA), composite analysis (CA), and cumulative impact evaluation (CIE) at the Hanford Site.
