Separating rare earth metal oxalates

A method is provided for separating and/or purifying different metal oxalates by mixing the different metal oxalates in an aqueous solution comprising oxalic acid and an organic base so that at least one metal oxalate is soluble and at least another metal oxalate is not soluble. Different rare earth metal oxalates and/or transition metal oxalates can be separated.

Parameterization of the Stoner-Wohlfarth model of magnetic hysteresis

The Stoner-Wohlfarth (SW) is the most used model of magnetic hysteresis, but its computation is time-consuming. We approximate piecewise this model by easy-to-compute analytic functions. Overall, our parametrization is suitable for fast quantitative evaluations and fitting experimental data, which we exemplify. Applicability of this parametrization is as broad as that of the SW model, which can be extended to include more parameters.

Dissolution and separation of rare earth metals

A chemical dissolution method is provided for use in recycling rare earth metal-containing material such as permanent magnet material including end-of-life magnet shapes, magnet scrap and Terfenol-D alloy material by mixing the rare earth metal-containing material and an aqueous solution of a copper (II) salt to dissolve the material in the solution. The dissolved rare earth metal is then precipitated from the aqueous solution as a rare earth metal compound, such as a rare earth metal oxalate, sulfate or phosphate from which rare earth metal oxide can be obtained.
