Verification of Feasibility Studies at High-Technology Enterprises

Innovation and investment in the development of high-technology enterprises must be preceded by thorough feasibility studies. The potential errors in the associated management decisions may be categorized. In the light of such potential errors, feasibility studies must be verified by qualified and impartial experts, with a final verdict regarding the presence or absence of significant errors and perhaps recommendations for improvement. In the present work, the most common approaches to expert verification are categorized, and proposals are made regarding the development and synergetic combination of such methods.

Thermal Stores in Spacecraft Heating Systems

In the present work, we consider the use of thermal stores in spacecraft heating systems. The advantages and disadvantages of various approaches to heat storage are compared. The use of heat stores with a melting working material is most promising and practicable at present.

Economic Optimization of the Modular Structure of Complex Objects

In the design of complex objects, modular principles are of great interest. That approach has both negative and positive consequences. It clearly affects the cost of acquiring the required stock of equipment and, in particular, the spare parts necessary for its maintenance. Optimization of the modular structure of industrial equipment may best be approached in economic terms. Smart information systems for the support of management decisions prove very useful. A structure is proposed for such a system. Examples of such optimization in the aviation industry are presented, and practical experience is noted.

Thermoelectric Properties of Cobalt Monosilicide and Its Alloys

Thermoelectric properties of cobalt monosilicide CoSi and (Co{sub 1 –x}M{sub x}Si, M = Fe, Ni) alloys are studied. Alloy compositions with an iron content of up to 10 at % and nickel content of up to 5 at % are examined. The thermoelectric power and electrical resistivity are measured at temperatures in the range 100–800 K. Recent calculations of the band structure of cobalt monosilicide have revealed a number of significant differences from the standard semi-metallic model with the energy overlap of parabolic bands for electrons and holes. This requires the modification of previously employed models to describe the transport properties. The possibility of theoretical description of the experimental temperature and concentration dependences of the thermoelectric power and electrical resistivity with the use of different models for description of the electronic spectrum is analyzed.

Effect of Praseodymium and Lanthanum Substitution for Bismuth on the Thermoelectric Properties of BiCuSeO Oxyselenides

The results of investigating the thermoelectric properties of the bulk р-type oxyselenides Bi{sub 1 –x}Pr{sub x}CuSeO (x = 0, 0.04, 0.08) and Bi{sub 0.96}La{sub 0.04}CuSeO obtained by the solid-state reaction technique are presented. The temperature dependences of the thermopower, electrical resistivity, and thermal conductivity are measured at temperatures from room temperature to 800 K. Over the whole temperature range, a decrease in the electrical resistivity and thermopower is observed with increasing substitution level, while the thermal conductivity is almost unaffected by the substitution of rare-earth elements for bismuth. Despite the nominal valence of Bi, La, and Pr being the same, the replacement of bismuth by rare-earth ions leads to an increase in the charge-carrier concentration, which may be caused by a difference in the electronic configurations of ions, resulting in a shift of the Fermi level to the valence band.

Preventing Faults in Machine Tools for Critical Cooperative and Distributed Industrial Productions

A critically important high-tech industrial enterprise forms part of a territorially distributed cooperative production system. Precise optimization of management decisions regarding fault prevention in its stock of machine tools is very important. Up-to-date tools for management decisions must be used for that purpose. Those tools must support the basic management functions and include software for high-level mathematical models of machine-tool operation (models of the state of the equipment and a model of its use in the course of production) and a model of the economic potential of the enterprises.

Measuring System for Use in Radar-System Development

A new system for the analysis and monitoring of radar equipment at the development stage is described. In the verification of radar systems, it is of particular interest to check the reliability of programs that permit the identification of flight test data. In practice, that improves the interpretation of flight data. Practical results are presented.
