Anomalies in string-inspired nonlocal extensions of QED

We investigate anomalies in the class of nonlocal field theories that have been proposed as an ultraviolet completion of four-dimensional quantum field theory with generalizing the kinetic energy operators to an infinite series of higher derivatives inspired by the string field theory and ghost-free nonlocal approaches to quantum gravity. We explicitly calculate the vector and chiral anomalies in a string-inspired nonlocal extension of QED. We show that the vector anomaly vanishes as required by gauge invariance and the Ward identity. On the other hand, although the chiral anomaly vanishes to the leading order with massless fermions, it nonetheless does not vanish with the massive fermions and we calculate it to the leading order in the scale of nonlocality. We also calculate the nonlocal vector and axial currents explicitly and present an illustrative example by applying our results to the decay of π 0 → γ γ . Standard model Higgs inflation supplemented by minimal dark matter

Renormalization group analysis with the present measurements of the top quark mass m t = 172.69 ± 0.30 GeV [1] indicates that the Standard Model (SM) Higgs potential becomes unstable at energy scales ∼ 10 10 GeV . This may be interpreted as hinting at new particles at high energy. The minimal extension of the SM that can avoid this instability while leaving the SM Higgs as the sole scalar particle of the theory is obtained by adding suitable fermions to the SM. These fermions are good dark matter candidates and the model is known as the minimal dark matter model. We revisit the inflationary scenario based on the minimal dark matter model, taking into account updated parameter constraints and recent understanding of reheating dynamics. We explore the model with different values of the right-handed neutrino mass and find that the cosmological prediction is insensitive to such details. We obtained a spectral index of the cosmic microwave background n s = 0.9672 and a tensor-to-scalar ratio r = 0.0031 as a robust prediction of this scenario. Fate of false vacuum in non-perturbative regimes

Abstract We use some exact results in scalar field theory to revise the analysis by Coleman and Callan about false vacuum decay and propose a simple non-perturbative formalism. We introduce an exact Green’s function which incorporates non-perturbative corrections in the strong coupling regimes of the theory. The solution of the scalar field theory involves the Jacobi elliptical function and has been used to calculate the effective potential for any arbitrary coupling values. We demonstrate the use of this formalism in a simpleλϕ 4 theory, and show that the effective potential exhibits a false minimum at the origin. We then calculate the false vacuum decay rate in the thin wall approximation, and suggest simple analytic formulae that may be useful for the analysis for the first-order phase transition beyond the perturbative regime. In our methodology, we show that the standard results obtained in perturbation theory are reproduced by making the coupling values very small.

Aspects of the Domain-Wall Standard Model

Abstract In the “Domain-Wall Standard Model,” all the Standard Model (SM) fields are localized in certain domains in a non-compact 5D space-time. While the SM is realized as a 4D effective theory at low energies, the model involves Kaluza–Klein (KK) modes of the SM particles. In this paper we introduce two simple solvable examples which lead to domain-wall configurations for the SM particles and their KK-modes. Based on the examples, we address a variety of phenomenologies of the Domain-Wall SM, such as the KK-mode gauge boson phenomenology at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the effect of the KK-mode SM fermions on Higgs boson phenomenology, and the KK-mode fermion search at the LHC with its decay into a corresponding SM fermion and a Nambu–Goldstone boson associated with a spontaneous breaking of the translational invariance in the 5th dimension. We also propose a simple unified picture of localizing all the SM fields.
