Reducing Ripple In A Switching Voltage Regulator

Ripple voltage in output of switching voltage regulator reduced substantially by simple additional circuitry adding little to overall weight and size of regulator. Heretofore, additional filtering circuitry needed to obtain comparable reductions in ripple typically as large and heavy as original regulator. Current opposing ripple current injected into filter capacitor.

Self-Oscillating Inductive Boost Regulator

Improved voltage regulator designed for use in solar photovoltaic dc power system utilizing flywheel for energy storage. Includes self-oscillating inductive voltage-boosting circuit, which regulates withdrawal of energy from flywheel and motor/generator when output of solar cells insufficient to maintain load voltage at specified level of 150 Vdc. Features include optical coupling and rapid response.

Power conditioning electronics for a 500 Wh inertial energy storage system

A description is given of a pulse-width-modulated buck-boost converter designed to interface a 500 Wh inertial energy storage system operating from 70 to 140 VDC to a constant bus of 150 VDC. Implementation of hysteresis feedback control provides excellent voltage regulation. The design is based on a 300-Wh, 94 percent Wh efficient prototype and is currently being optimized to yield 97 percent overall watt-hour efficiency.

Electrically-Isolating Analog Amplifier

Signals transmitted between units at different ground potentials. Analog amplifier electrically isolates input from output through use of optoelectronic components. Analog isolation amplifier uses dual-transistor optoisolator, preventing transmission of common-mode voltage from input to output. Circuit useful in spacecraft electronic systems.
