Correlation of the Buckling Strength of Pressurized Cylinders in Compression or Bending with Structural Parameters

The data on nonpressurized cylinders in bending of NACA TN 3735 and the data on pressurized cylinders in compression and bending of NASA TN D-360 are correlated with structural parameters by using small-deflection buckling theory and reduced values for the extensional stiffness of the cylinder wall. The correlating procedure should prove useful in future shell-buckling investigations by reducing the number of tests required.

Investigation of the Structural Behavior and Maximum Bending Strength of Six Multiweb Beams with Three Types of Webs

The results of bending tests on six multiweb beams of optimum weight-strength design are presented. The internal structure of the beams consisted of various combinations of two types of full-depth solid webs and a post-stringer web. The observed structural behavior, buckling load, and failing load of the beams are compared with results obtained by the use of existing methods of analysis and found to be quite predictable.

Compression Tests on Circular Cylinders Stiffened Longitudinally by Closely Spaced Z-Section Stringers

Six circular cylinders stiffened longitudinally by closely spaced Z-section stringers were loaded to failure in compression. The results obtained are presented and compared with available theoretical results for the buckling of orthotropic cylinders. The results indicate that the large disparity that exists between theory and experiment for unstiffened compression cylinders may be significantly smaller for stiffened cylinders.
