Temperature waves in a stratified sea
Calculations on the effect of density stratification on the propagation of temperature waves show that in layers with a positive maximum density gradient the temperature waves damp out more quickly. In a linear distribution of density with depth and a constant intensity of turbulent exchange, density stratification makes temperature wave amplitudes inversely proportional to density distribution in comparison with values from the open uniform sea.
