Dipole moments and transition probabilities of the a 3Sigma(+)g - b 3Sigma(+)u system of molecular hydrogen

Multiconfiguration variational calculations of the electronic wave functions of the a 3Sigma(+)g and b 3Sigma(+)u states of molecular hydrogen are presented, and the electric dipole transition moment between them (of interest in connection with stellar atmospheres and the UV spectrum of the Jovian planets) is obtained. The dipole moment is used to calculate the probabilities of radiative transitions from the discrete vibrational levels of the a 3Sigma(+)g state to the vibrational continuum of the repulsive b 3Sigma(+)u state as functions of the wavelength of the emitted photons. The total transition probabilities and radiative lifetimes of the levels v prime = 0-20 are presented.

Transition probabilities of the B-prime 1Sigma(u)(+) to X 1Sigma(g)(+) system of molecular hydrogen

From published potential energy curves and transition dipole moments, there are obtained by numerical integration of the equations of nuclear motion the vibrational eigenfunctions of the X 1Sigma(g)(+) and B-prime 1Sigma(u)(+) states of H2. The probabilities of radiative transitions from the discrete vibrational levels of the excited B-prime 1Sigma(u)(+) electronic state of H2 to the discrete and continuum vibrational levels of the ground X 1Sigma(g)(+) electronic state are calculated. The Franck-Condon factors are also presented.

Prairie Network fireballs. I - General information and orbits

Methods for obtaining and processing photographs of bright meteors in the United States in the period from 1963 to 1975 are briefly described. Orbital elements and other characteristics are given for 334 bright persistent and long Prairie Network fireballs. The accuracy of the data presented is evaluated.

Yet Another Stream Search Among 2401 Photographic Meteors

Two streams previously listed (one of them with a classification on Ceplecha's system in terms of beginning height) by Cook are shown probably not to exist, a possibility already pointed out by Cook. One stream that he questioned was revised as to membership and then classified. Four streams are added to the list and one of these is classified. Previous reports exist for three of these streams, while one is new. The two Piscid streams of Lindblad and his alpha Triangulid stream are regrouped into two streams, one already called the Andromedids by Cook and the other still called the Piscids; the alpha Triangulids are absorbed into the Andromedids. The Piscids are classified along with the iota Aquarids. The classifications of the Taurids and the Andromedids remain unchanged.

Combined observations of meteors by image-orthicon television camera and multi-station radar

Observations from multiple sites of a radar network and by television of 29 individual meteors from February 1969 through June 1970 are reported. Only 12 of the meteors did not appear to fragment over all the observed portion of their trajectories. From these 12, the relation for the radar magnitude to the panchromatic absolute magnitude was found in terms of velocity of the meteor. A very tentative fit to the data on the duration of long enduring echoes versus visual absolute magnitude is made. The exponential decay characteristics of the later parts of several of the light curves are pointed out as possible evidence of mutual coalescence of droplets into which the meteoroid has completely broken.
