This collection is the data-centric appendices for the report Life Cycle Analysis of Natural Gas Extraction and Power Generation: U.S. 2020 Emissions Profile. It consists of Appendix A: Additional Modeling Parameters [spreadsheet]; Appendix B: Water Burdens [spreadsheet]; Appendix D: Simulation of Liquids Unloading [python script and spreadsheet]; Appendix E: Detailed GHG Results for All Scenarios [spreadsheet]; Appendix F: Full Inventory Results [spreadsheet]; and Appendix I: Stage-Level Natural Gas Loss and Consumption Rates [spreadsheet].
Life Cycle Analysis of Enhanced Rock Weathering
This study aims to evaluate the life cycle impacts of weathering agricultural fields in the U.S. Midwest with igneous rock (dunite/olivine) and industrial waste minerals using literature and estimated data from a techno-economic analysis (TEA). The GWP impact with igneous rock and industrial waste materials ranges 34–263 and 23–180 kg CO2-eq/tonne CO2 sequestered, respectively, with comminution and transportation as the main environmental hotspots for igneous rock, and transportation for industrial waste.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification Considerations for Carbon Dioxide Removal
The project investigates Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) methods for Enhanced Weathering and Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (mCDR) technologies. Enhanced Weathering accelerates natural mineral processes to capture CO2, while mCDR leverages oceanic processes for carbon sequestration. The study focuses on developing standardized MRV protocols, assessing environmental impacts, and evaluating the scalability and economic feasibility of these carbon sequestration methods. The goal is to ensure reliable and transparent data for validating and improving CO2 removal technologies.
Life Cycle Analysis of Natural Gas Extraction and Power Generation: U.S. 2020 Emissions Profile Update
This poster was presented at the DOE Office of Resource Sustainability Project Review Meeting in Pittsburgh from April 2-4. The poster provides a summary of modeling changes for the NETL natural gas life cycle analysis along with draft results.
