Adaptive polarization separation

A broadband adaptively controlled polarization separation network is discussed. Two transmitted signals vertically and horizontally polarized are received as elliptically polarized signals. If there is any vertical polarization on the other signal the separation network provides two signals. The separation is done automatically by the use of two sets of crosscouplers which couple a single line to the other line to complete the polarization decoupling operation.

Adaptive polarization separation experiments

Network approach lends itself to simple, direct, analog adaptive control. System constructed and tested successfully with adaptive control yielding residual cross polarization below main channel level for input cross polarization. Canellation network significantly cancels polarization over very wide bandwidths and is adaptively controlled.

Measured results of polarization crosstalk cancellation using LMS control

This paper discusses the use of wideband decoupling networks for the cancellation of polarization crosstalk in dual-polarized communication links. Measured cancellation performance for an all-electronic IF network and an RF electro-mechanical waveguide network are presented. Each of these networks utilizes LMS-type adaptive control techniques to adjust the cancellation network.
