Study for the optimization of a transport aircraft wing for maximum fuel efficiency. Volume 1: Methodology, criteria, aeroelastic model definition and results

Work performed in the design of a transport aircraft wing for maximum fuel efficiency is documented with emphasis on design criteria, design methodology, and three design configurations. The design database includes complete finite element model description, sizing data, geometry data, loads data, and inertial data. A design process which satisfies the economics and practical aspects of a real design is illustrated. The cooperative study relationship between the contractor and NASA during the course of the contract is also discussed.

Design and true Reynolds number 2-D testing of an advanced technology airfoil

A NASA-industry program has been conducted to determine the accuracy of available 2-D airfoil analysis procedures over a wide range of Reynolds numbers. The program also served to develop and demonstrate effective wind tunnel model designs for use in a cryogenic environment. A Lockheed design, CRYO 12X, supercritical, shockfree airfoil was configured using a continuous curvature analytical definition of the ordinates. Test results show a very close ordinate tolerance was necessary to realize the intended pressure distribution. Correlation of test with Korn-Garabedian 2-D analysis pressure data were generally good. GRUMFOIL analysis with a sidewall correction gave a better correlation.

REXOR 2 rotorcraft simulation model. Volume 1: Engineering documentation

A rotorcraft nonlinear simulation called REXOR II, divided into three volumes, is described. The first volume is a development of rotorcraft mechanics and aerodynamics. The second is a development and explanation of the computer code required to implement the equations of motion. The third volume is a user's manual, and contains a description of code input/output as well as operating instructions.
