Preliminary Link between the Hipparcos 37-Month Fast Solution and a VLBI Extragalactic Reference Frame

Results of the VLBI astrometric program of 12 radio-emitting stars are presented and used to provide a preliminary link of the Hipparcos 37-month FAST solution to a VLBI extragalactic reference frame. The formal precisions of this link are 0.5 milliarcsecond in global rotation and 0.5 milliarcsecond per year in residual rate of rotation.

Fire and safety materials utilization at the John F. Kennedy Space Center

The special needs of the Kennedy Space Center in the area of protective garments for personnel engaged in hazardous emergency operations are discussed. The materials used in the protective clothing and the specialized applications of various materials are described. It is concluded that Nomex is the best general purpose nonflammable material for protective clothing.
