Base Support Building and Kennedy Athletic, Recreation, and Social Park II SWMU 014 and SWMU 118 PFAS 2023 Site Assessment Progress Report Kennedy Space Center, Florida

This Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Site Assessment Progress Report (SAPR) presents the findings of the 2023 PFAS investigation conducted between October 12, 2022, and January 24, 2024, at the Base Support Building (previously known as the Maintenance and Operation Building), Solid Waste Management Unit (SWMU) 014, and at the Kennedy Athletic, Recreation, and Social (KARS) Park II, (SWMU 118) located within Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida. SWMUs 014 and 118 were initially investigated independently; however, the results of the previous investigations indicated a single PFAS groundwater plume covering both SWMUs, so the two sites are being reported together.

Land Use Control Implementation Plan

This Land Use Control Implementation Plan (LUCIP) has been prepared to inform current and potential future users of the Corrosion Atmospheric Exposure Facility (CAEF) of institutional controls that have been implemented at the site. 1 Although most areas at CAEF do not pose current unacceptable risks to human health or the environment, areas of arsenic-impacted soil exceeding the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (Florida DEP) residential soil cleanup target levels (SCTLs) have been identified. Institutional land use controls (LUCs) are necessary to prevent contact with surface and subsurface soils at the site. Controls will include periodic inspection, condition certification, and agency notification.
