Relative populations of excited levels within the ground configuration of Si-like Cu, Zn, Ge and Se ions

Populations of 3p2 1D2, 3P1, 3P2 levels in Si-like Cu, Zn, Ge, and Se ions have been deduced from the measurements of absolute intensities of magnetic dipole transitions within the 3s2 3p2 ground configuration. The measured population ratios are compared with theoretical calculations based on the distorted-wave approximation for the electron collisions and a semiclassical approximation for the proton collisions. The observed deviation from the statistical distribution for the excited-level populations within the ground configuration along the silicon isoelectronic sequence is in agreement with theoretical prediction.

Neonlike Ar and Cl 3p-3s emission from a theta-pinch plasma

Time-resolved extreme-UV emission from sixteen 3p-3s transitions, some of the type in which lasing has been demonstrated in heavier elements, is measured for neonlike Ar(8+) and Cl(7+). These observations are made on a hydrogen theta-pinch plasma with a 5 pct admixture of argon or freon (for Cl). Fourteen 3d-3p spectral lines are also detected. The measured intensities are compared to theoretical predictions. There is no evidence of anomalously intense lines originating on 2p5 3p J = 2 upper levels compared to J = 0, as observed in gain experiments.

Analytical stability and simulation response study for a coupled two-body system

An analytical stability study and a digital simulation response study of two connected rigid bodies are documented. Relative rotation of the bodies at the connection is allowed, thereby providing a model suitable for studying system stability and response during a soft-dock regime. Provisions are made of a docking port axes alignment torque and a despin torque capability for encountering spinning payloads. Although the stability analysis is based on linearized equations, the digital simulation is based on nonlinear models.

Digital simulation for post-docking response

The digital program, 2BODY, which simulates the translational and rotational motion of two connected rigid bodies and provides both digital and plot output is described. Relative rotation of the bodies at the connection is allowed, thereby providing a model suitable for studying system stability and response during a soft-dock regime. A users manual for the program is given as well as all the details and background pertaining to the equations of motion and mathematical models, integration scheme, and input/output routines.
