Real time optical figure sensor

Mirrors produced for various optical systems require precise surface finishing. Sensor, developed for measuring mirror surface, is compensated for interferences from temperature and air disturbances and is capable of measuring mirrors with diameters of up to 2 meters.

Evaluation of the thin deformable active optics mirror concept

The active optics concept using a thin deformable mirror has been successfully demonstrated using a 30 in. diameter, 1/2 in. thick mirror and a 61 point matrix of forces for alignment. Many of the problems associated with the design, fabrication, and launch of large aperture diffraction-limited astronomical telescopes have been resolved and experimental data created that can provide accurate predictions of performance in orbit.

Advanced figure sensor

The advanced Figure Sensor Study which examined approaches for measuring parabolic mirror surfaces is reported. This report deals only with the final test results obtained from the working model of the Advanced Figure Sensor. It also describes the construction of the unit.

Advanced figure sensor operations and maintenance manual

This manual contains procedures for installing, operating, and maintaining the optical figure sensor and its associated electronic controls. The optical figure sensor, a system of integrated components, comprises: (1) a phase measuring modified interferometer employing a single frequency 6328 A laser, and a Vidissector; (2) a two-axis automatic thermal compensation control mount; (3) a five degree of freedom manual adjustment stand; and (4) a control console. This instrument provides real time output data of optical figure errors for spherical mirrors, and is also capable of measuring aspherical mirrors if a null corrector is added.
