Wave functions of multiquark hadrons from representations of the symmetry groups S n

Construction of the wave functions of multiquark hadrons by a traditional method based on the tensor products of colors, flavors, spins (and orbital) parts becomes quite complex when quark numbers grow n = 5 , 6 … 12 , as it gets difficult to satisfy the requirements of Fermi statistics. Our novel approach is focused directly on representations of the permutation symmetry generators. After showing how C 3 is manifested in the wave functions of (excited) baryons, we use it to construct the wave functions for a set of pentaquarks and hexaquarks ( n = 5 , 6 ). We also have some partial results for larger systems, with n = 9 and 12, and even beyond that as far as n = 24 . Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Pion gravitational form factors in the QCD instanton vacuum. I

The pion form factors of the QCD energy-momentum tensor (EMT) are studied in the instanton liquid model (ILM) of the QCD vacuum. In this approach, the breaking of conformal symmetry is encoded in the form of stronger-than-Poisson fluctuations in the number of instantons. For the trace of the EMT, it is shown that the gluonic trace anomaly term contributes half the pion mass, with the other half coming from the quark-mass-dependent σ term. The Q 2 dependence of the form factors is governed by glueball and scalar meson exchanges. For the EMT, the spin-0 (trace) and spin-2 (traceless rank-2 tensor) form factors are computed at next-to-leading order in the instanton density using effective quark operators. Relations between the gluon and quark contributions to the EMT form factors are derived. The form factors are also expressed in terms of the pion light-front wave functions in the ILM. The results at the low resolution scale of the inverse instanton size are evolved to higher scales using the renormalization group equation. The ILM results compare well with those of recent lattice QCD calculations. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Pion gravitational form factors in the QCD instanton vacuum. II

We revisit the hard QCD contributions to the pion gravitational form factors, in terms of the twist-2,3 pion distribution amplitudes (DAs), including novel semihard contributions from the instantons. The pion DAs are evaluated in the QCD instanton vacuum and then properly evolved to higher resolution. The results are compared to our recent results from the QCD instanton vacuum, as well as Bethe-Salpeter calculations and recent lattice data. The interpolated hard and soft contributions to the pion D form factor are used to derive the (gravitational) pressure and shear within the pion, with a clear delineation of their range.

Glue in hadrons at medium resolution and the QCD instanton vacuum

We discuss a general framework for the evaluation of the gluonic form factors in light hadrons at low momentum transfer, in the QCD instanton vacuum. At medium resolution of the order of the inverse mean instanton size, the glue is mostly localized in single or pairs of pseudoparticles and globally constrained by the fluctuations of their topological charges. These pseudoparticles trap light quarks, giving rise to emerging multiflavor ’t Hooft interactions. We explicitly evaluate the gluonic scalar, pseudoscalar, energy-momentum tensor (EMT), and the leading C -odd and C -even three-gluon hadronic form factors, at next to leading order in the instanton density, including molecular clusters of like and unlike instantons. We use the results for the EMT to address the contribution of the gluons in Ji’s mass and spin sum rules, at low resolution. When evolved, our results for the mass and spin composition of the nucleon are shown to be in good agreement with the recently reported lattice results at higher resolution. Hadronic structure on the light front. VIII. Light scalar and vector mesons

We use the QCD instanton vacuum model to discuss the emergence of the light scalar and vector mesons on the light front. We take into account both the instanton and anti-instanton single and molecular interactions on the light quarks, in the form of nonlocal effective interactions. Although the molecular induced interactions are suppressed by a power of the packing fraction, they are still sufficient to bind the vector mesons, while keeping most of the scalar spectrum relatively unchanged. We explicitly derive the light front distribution amplitudes and partonic functions for the scalar and vector mesons, and compare them after pertinent QCD evolution, to the available empirical and lattice measured counterparts. The Dirac electric form factors for both the pion and ρ meson are derived, and shown to compare well with current data. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Baryons and tetraquarks using instanton-induced interactions

We analyze some aspects of the perturbative and nonperturbative interactions in the composition of heavy quarkonia, heavy and light baryons ( c c c and u u u ones), as well as all charm tetraquarks ( c c c ¯ c ¯ ). Using the hyperspherical approximation and effective radial potentials (in six and nine dimensions, respectively) we derive their spectra and wave functions. In all of the cases, we focus on the splittings between the S -shell levels, which are remarkably insensitive to the quark masses, but proportional to the effective interaction potentials. We use the traditional Cornell-like potentials, and the nonperturbative instanton-induced static potentials, from correlators of two, three, and four Wilson lines, and find rather satisfactory description of spectra in all cases. 50 Years of quantum chromodynamics

Quantum Chromodynamics, the theory of quarks and gluons, whose interactions can be described by a local SU(3) gauge symmetry with charges called “color quantum numbers”, is reviewed; the goal of this review is to provide advanced Ph.D. students a comprehensive handbook, helpful for their research. When QCD was “discovered” 50 years ago, the idea that quarks could exist, but not be observed, left most physicists unconvinced. Then, with the discovery of charmonium in 1974 and the explanation of its excited states using the Cornell potential, consisting of the sum of a Coulomb-like attraction and a long range linear confining potential, the theory was suddenly widely accepted. This paradigm shift is now referred to as the November revolution. It had been anticipated by the observation of scaling in deep inelastic scattering, and was followed by the discovery of gluons in three-jet events.

On the connection between perturbation theory and new semiclassical expansion in quantum mechanics

Here, it is shown that for the one-dimensional anharmonic oscillator with potential V(x) = ax 2 + bgx 3 + ... = $\frac{1}{g^2}$ $\hat{V}$ (gx), as well as for the radial oscillator V(r) = $\frac{1}{g^2}$ $\hat{V}$ (gr) and for the perturbed Coulomb problem V(r) = $\frac{a}{r}$ + βgr + ... = g $\tilde{V}$ (gr), the Perturbation Theory in powers of the coupling constant g (weak coupling regime) and the semiclassical expansion in powers of $\hbar$ 1/2 for the energies coincide. This is related to the fact that the dynamics developed in two spaces: x (r)-space and gx (gr)-space, lead to the same energy spectra. The equations which govern dynamics in these two spaces, the Riccati-Bloch equation and the Generalized Bloch equation, respectively, are presented. It is shown that the perturbation theory for the logarithmic derivative of the wavefunction in - space leads to (true) semiclassical expansion in powers of $\hbar$ 1/2 ; for the one-dimensional case this corresponds to the flucton calculus for the density matrix in the path integral formalism in Euclidean (imaginary) time proposed by one of the authors. Matching the perturbation theory in powers of g and the semiclassical expansion in powers of $\hbar$ 1/2 for the wavefunction leads to a highly accurate local approximation in the entire coordinate space, its expectation value for the Hamiltonian provides a prescription for the summation of the perturbative (trans)-series.

Correlating confinement to topological fluctuations near the crossover transition in QCD

We show the existence of strong (anti)correlations between the topological hot spots and the local values of the trace of the Polyakov loop in 2 + 1 flavor QCD with physical quark mass, in the vicinity of the crossover transition corresponding to the simultaneous restoration of chiral symmetry and deconfinement. Using sophisticated lattice techniques, we have carefully identified the topological hot spots using quark zero modes and measured the short-distance fluctuations of the Polyakov loop about them, showing how the latter is repelled quite strongly around the peak of the zero modes. Though we could explain some aspects of these correlations within the instanton-dyon picture, our work sets the stage for a larger goal towards a systematic study of the role of different topological species that interact with the Polyakov loop, establishing the strong connection between topology and confinement.
