Additive manufacturing enabled hot-wire apparatus with suppressed edge effect error

This invention describes a method of structuring a metal or metal coated wire in a manner such that it provides enhanced accuracy when used in a hot-wire apparatus for transient thermal conductivity measurements for low-density materials. This is accomplished by using a diameter varying structure with two ends of the wire of sufficiently small diameter that the edge-effect induced error can be reduced by generating a more uniform temperature profile along the wire, whereas in conventional apparatus the temperatures always drop at the ends of a finite wire due to its ends that are being cooled by the wire-supports.

Node support input to HydroGEN STCH project quarterly report

n this quarter, we further refined our water splitting (WS) reaction calculations on the surface of SrTi 0.5 Mn 0.5 O 3 . Among various surface configurations for WS imposed by surface orientations, terminations, and neighboring chemical species, we hypothesized that (1) the WS reaction energy should be exothermic and (2) the surface oxygen vacancy formation energy should be in a reasonable range compared to the bulk oxygen vacancy formation energy to be accessible during the reduction and WS reaction conditions.

Thermo-elastoviscoplastic snapthrough behavior of cylindrical panels

The thermo-elastoviscoplastic snapthrough behavior of simply supported cylindrical panels is investigated. The analysis is based on nonlinear kinematic relations and nonlinear rate-dependent unified constitutive equations which include both Bodner-Partom's and Walker's material models. A finite element approach is employed to predict the inelastic buckling behavior. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effects of several parameters which include the temperature, thickness and flatness of the panel. Comparisons of buckling responses between Bodner-Partom's model and Walker's model are given. The creep buckling behavior, as an example of time-dependent inelastic deformation, is also presented.

Elastoviscoplastic buckling behavior of simply supported columns

The elastoviscoplastic buckling behavior of simply supported columns is investigated. The analysis is based on an incremental formulation that can deal with nonlinear geometrical and constitutive relations. Both viscoelastic and viscoplastic models are discussed, and Bodner-Partom's constitutive equations are used in the viscoplastic case. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the buckling behavior of columns under various temperature and loading levels.
