Blue Canyon Dome: Development of a Small-Scale Testbed for Monitoring Underground Explosions

This report documents the development of the Blue Canyon Dome (BCD) testbed, including test site selection, development, instrumentation, and logistical considerations. The BCD testbed was designed for small-scale explosive tests (~5 kg TNT equivalence maximum) for the purpose of comparing diagnostic signals from different types of explosives, the assumption being that different chemical explosives would generate different signatures on geophysical and other monitoring tools. The BCD testbed is located at the Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center near Socorro, New Mexico. Instrumentation includes an electrical resistivity tomography array, geophones, distributed acoustic sensing, gas samplers, distributed temperature sensing, pressure transducers, and high-speed cameras. This SAND report is a reference for BCD testbed development that can be cited in future publications.

Time-series dissolved oxygen, other bigeochemically-relevant analytes, and pressure gradients associated with the manuscript “Dissolved oxygen sensor in an automated hyporheic sampling system reveals biogeochemical dynamics”

This dataset contains time-series data from a vertical profile within the bed and banks of the Columbia river near Richland, WA. Water was sampled through 3 small tubes embedded in the sediment at 50,100, and 200 cm below the sediment-water interface. The goal of this study was to observe the correlations between hydraulic drivers and biogeochemical responses. The results of this study are published in the manuscript “Dissolved oxygen sensor in an automated hyporheic sampling system reveals biogeochemical dynamics”. The file types included in the data package are all time-series spreadsheet data, including hydraulic head gradients, physical parameters (temperature, pressure, SpC (specific conductivity)), and biogeochemical parameters (dissolved oxygen, pH, NO3 (nitrate) and ORP (oxidation-reduction potential)).

EGS Collab Experiment 1: Circulation Testing Processed data

This submission includes processed and reduced data for circulation testing that was conducted at the 164' fracture on the 4850 ft level of the Sanford Underground Research Facility. The circulation tests were done to test the flow through the 164' fracture in the EGS Collab Experiment 1 testbed on the 4850 ft level of the Sanford Underground Research Facility in order to validate computer models concerned with flow processes and heat exchange processes in EGS. This data was processed from raw data that is available in the GDR submission linked below: "EGS Collab Circulation Testing Raw Data and Documentation." Python scripts used to process and reduce the data are included. The scripts also serve as "documentation" as well as examples for data processing. More information about the test itself as well as the rationale and process of data processing is available at wiki page linked below.
