A topological Hund nodal line antiferromagnet

The interplay of topology, magnetism, and correlations gives rise to intriguing phases of matter. In this study, through state-of-the-art angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, density functional theory, and dynamical mean-field theory calculations, we visualize a fourfold degenerate Dirac nodal line at the boundary of the bulk Brillouin zone in the antiferromagnet YMn 2 Ge 2 . We further demonstrate that this gapless, antiferromagnetic Dirac nodal line is enforced by the combination of magnetism, space-time inversion symmetry, and nonsymmorphic lattice symmetry. The corresponding drumhead surface states traverse the whole surface Brillouin zone. YMn 2 Ge 2 thus serves as a platform to exhibit the interplay of multiple degenerate nodal physics and antiferromagnetism. Interestingly, the magnetic nodal line displays a d-orbital dependent renormalization along its trajectory in momentum space, thereby manifesting Hund's coupling. Our findings offer insights into the effect of electronic correlations on magnetic Dirac nodal lines, leading to an antiferromagnetic Hund nodal line.

Synthesis, disorder and Ising anisotropy in a new spin liquid candidate PrMgAl 11 O 19

Here we report the successful synthesis of large single crystals of triangular frustrated PrMgAl 11 O 19 using the optical floating zone technique. Single crystal x-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements unveiled the presence of quenched disorder within the mirror plane, specifically ~7% of Pr ions deviating from the ideal 2d site towards the 6h site. Magnetic susceptibility measurements revealed an Ising anisotropy with the c-axis being the easy axis. Despite a large spin–spin interaction that develops below ~10 K and considerable site disorder, the spins do not order or freeze down to at least 50 mK. The availability of large single crystals offers a distinct opportunity to investigate the exotic magnetic state on a triangular lattice with an easy axis out of the plane.

Strain-induced spontaneous Hall effect in an epitaxial thin film of a Luttinger semimetal

Pyrochlore iridates have offered a plethora of novel phenomena owing to the combination of topology and correlation. Among them, much attention has been paid to P r 2 I r 2 O 7 , as it is known as a Luttinger semimetal characterized by quadratic band touching at the Brillouin zone center, suggesting that the topology of its electronic states can be tuned by a moderate lattice strain and external magnetic field. In this work, we report that our epitaxial P r 2 I r 2 O 7 thin films grown by solid-state epitaxy exhibit a spontaneous Hall effect that persists up to 50 K without having spontaneous magnetization within our experimental accuracy. This indicates that the system breaks the time reversal symmetry at a temperature scale that is too high for the magnetism to be due to Pr 4f moments and must be related to magnetic order of the iridium 5d electrons. Moreover, our analysis finds that the chiral anomaly induces the negative contribution to the magnetoresistance only when a magnetic field and the electric current are parallel to each other. Our findings suggest that the strained part of the thin film forms a magnetic Weyl semimetal state.
