AmeriFlux AR-Bal Balcarce BA

This is the AmeriFlux version of the carbon flux data for the site AR-Bal Balcarce BA. Site Description - The study was carried out in a 19-ha rainfed soybean plot at the Unidad Integrada Balcarce, located southeast of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The site is located in an environment of gentle hills at 130 m.a.s.l. Its soil was classified as a typical Argiudoll, with a loamy clayey texture up to 0.30 m and between 0.80 to 1.10 m depth, and a clayey texture between 0.30 and 0.80 m depth. The slope was 1:50 and oriented NE to SW. A caliche layer was found at 1 to 1.2 m depth thus the water table was considered beneath that level. The soybean variety used was DM 3810, Maturity Group III with an indeterminate growing habit. It was sown on November 21, 2012, and emerged on December 1. The crop archive had a maximum height of 0.75 m.

AmeriFlux AR-Rom Romano Mar Chiquita BA

This is the AmeriFlux version of the carbon flux data for the site AR-Rom Romano Mar Chiquita BA. Site Description - The site was at Mar Chiquita coastal lagoon, located in the southeast of Buenos Aires province, Argentina, in an agricultural establishment (“Antonio Romano S. A.”), whose main activity was cattle production. A flux tower was settled within the raised high marsh approximately 6 km from the sea and 2 km from a lagoon. The water body showed two hydrographic areas with marine and inland influence regulated by the sea tides and rainfall respectively. There were sandy dunes occupied by open vegetation composed of grasses and herb species. Physiognomy surrounding the measurement site was the characteristic evergreen grassy landscape with an average canopy height of 0.7 m and little phenological variation throughout the year.

AmeriFlux AR-Cel CELPA Mar Chiquita BA

This is the AmeriFlux version of the carbon flux data for the site AR-Cel CELPA Mar Chiquita BA. Site Description - The site is located at a mid-latitude South Atlantic pristine salt marsh. It occupies 43 km2 of an extended marginal flat surrounding a 25 km long brackish lagoon connected with the Argentine Sea through an inlet channel. The small tide amplitude prevents extensive waterlogging with salt water. Unlike other Northern Hemisphere salt marshes regularly flooded by daily tides, Mar Chiquita soaks throughout the winter with approximately a 10 cm freshwater layer coming from rains, and during summer high temperatures and high evapotranspiration dry the soil, producing a thin salt crust on the surface. Another significant difference is that the canopy persists throughout the year without dying out, due to the lack of snowfall or below-freezing winter temperatures.
