The feasibility of spaceborne scatterometers for the measurements of tropical cyclone wind fields has been investigated with the data from the Sea Winds scatterometer on QuickSCAT.
Several spaceborne scatterometer missions have been successfully flown in the past decade. In this paper, the application of simultaneous range/Doppler discrimination techniques are proposed as way of improving the single-pass resolution of conically scaning pencil-beam scatterometer systems.
Melt regions on Greenland ice are mapped daily with the SeaWinds wideswath Ku-band scatterometer on the QuikSCAT satellite.
Mapping soil wetness or moisture on the large scale is important to the monitoring of global water cycle and its variability.
NSCAT is the NASA Scatterometer to be launched on the Japanese ADEOS in 1996 for global ocean wind remote sensing.
