Tetraquarks from intrinsic heavy quarks

A number of new tetraquark candidate states containing from one to four charm or anticharm quarks have been observed recently. Many of these new states have been discovered at the LHC. The production of these states via intrinsic charm in the proton is investigated. The tetraquark masses obtained in this approach, while dependent on the internal transverse momenta of the partons in the state, are shown to agree well with the measured masses. These calculations can provide some insight into the nature of the tetraquark candidates, whether as a bound meson pair or as a looser configuration of four individual partons. The kinematic distributions of these states as a function of rapidity and transverse momentum are also studied. The possible cross sections for these states are finally considered, with a comparison to the 𝑋⁑(3872) 𝑝 𝑇 distributions from 𝑝 +𝑝 collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ =13 TeV.

Comparative study of quarkonium transport in hot QCD matter

This document summarizes the efforts of the EMMI Rapid Reaction Task Force on β€œSuppression and (re)generation of quarkonium in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC”, centered around their 2019 and 2022 meetings. It provides a review of existing experimental results and theoretical approaches, including lattice QCD calculations and semiclassical and quantum approaches for the dynamical evolution of quarkonia in the quark-gluon plasma as probed in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. The key ingredients of the transport models are itemized to facilitate comparisons of calculated quantities such as reaction rates, binding energies, and nuclear modification factors. A diagnostic assessment of the various results is attempted and coupled with an outlook for the future.

Proceedings of the Workshop for Applied Nuclear Data Activities WANDA 2022

On February 28 – March 4, 2022, the Nuclear Data Interagency Working Group (NDIAWG) hosted the 5-day virtual Workshop for Applied Nuclear Data (WANDA2022) to facilitate interagency collaboration on nuclear data for applications. This year’s focus was nuclear data for space applications, but also included photon reactions and transport, reactions on unstable nuclei, and data adjustment topics. The annual WANDA workshops are planned by the Nuclear Data Working Group (NDWG) with the goal of assembling users and producers of nuclear data to provide input to identify and prioritize nuclear data needs and to suggest solutions to address those needs. The workshop consisted of talks by agency program managers, six topic focused road mapping sessions and a review of NDIAWG-funded projects. More than 350 attendees represented national laboratories, universities, and federal agencies, as well as international organizations and industry. The proceedings presented herein summarize the workshop’s content, highlight important outcomes, and document attendees’ recommendations.

Contribution from intrinsic charm production to fixed-target interactions with the SMOG Device at LHCb

Intrinsic charm, nonperturbative charm in the hadron wavefunction, has long been speculated but has never been satisfactorily proven. Open charm and 𝐽/πœ“ measurements in a fixed-target configuration at the LHCb searched for this contribution but reported no evidence. $\overline{D}$ meson and 𝐽/πœ“ production is calculated for the SMOG fixed-target configuration in the LHCb experiment using a combination of perturbative QCD and intrinsic charm to see whether intrinsic charm would indeed be observable in the SMOG kinematics. Open charm and 𝐽/πœ“ production is calculated to next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD. Because a gas jet nuclear target is used, cold nuclear matter effects are included in the perturbative calculations. The intrinsic charm is calculated assuming production from a |𝑒⁒𝑒⁒𝑑⁒$\overline{c}$⁒$\rangle$ Fock state. The differential rapidity and transverse momentum distributions in 𝑝+Ne, 𝑝+He, and 𝑝+Ar fixed-target interactions are calculated in the SMOG acceptance and compared to data. The predicted asymmetries between $\overline{D}$ (leading charm) and 𝐷 (nonleading charm) are also shown. The contribution from intrinsic charm is small and decreases with center-of-mass energy. The calculations agree well with the current SMOG data, with or without intrinsic charm.

Generation of Fission Fragment Angular Momentum

In the last two years FREYA has been updated to study fission fragment angular momentum generation. We have also introduced integer and half integer spins, not specified in FREYA previously, and required to specify fragments more precisely. With these changes, FERYA still conserves energy as well as linear and angular momentum throughout the fission event. It is now possible to use FREYA to study a number of correlated quantities related to fragment spin, some of which can be directly measured. The spin-spin correlation was a major point of discussion at the Fission Fragment Angular Momentum workshop in Seattle in June 2022.
