Squeezing spectra for nonlinear optical systems

The squeezing spectra for the output fields of several intracavity nonlinear optical systems are obtained. It is shown that at critical points, e.g., the turning points for optical bistability, the threshold for parametric oscillation, and the self-pulsing instability in second-harmonic generation, perfect squeezing in the output field is, in principle, possible.

Spectrum of squeezing in resonance fluorescence

A spectral analysis of the squeezing in resonance fluorescence is accomplished via a study of a phase sensitive correlation function. In the case of resonance fluorescence from a two-level system, the initial state is a coherent state for the laser mode, a vacuum for the other states of the radiation field, and the atoms in the lower level. Maximum squeezing for resonance excitation is obtained for near resonant frequencies of the fluorescent light. Possible experimental configurations are discussed in order to detect spectral squeezing.

Violation of Bell's inequalities in quantum optics

An optical field produced by intracavity four-wave mixing is shown to exhibit the following nonclassical features: photon antibunching, squeezing, and violation of Cauchy-Schwarz and Bell's inequalities. These intrinsic quantum mechanical effects are shown to be associated with the nonexistence of a positive normalizable Glauber-Sudarshan P function.
