Charge- 4 e and Charge- 6 e Flux Quantization and Higher Charge Superconductivity in Kagome Superconductor Ring Devices

The flux quantization is a key indication of electron pairing in superconductors. For example, the well-known h / 2 e flux quantization is considered strong evidence for the existence of charge- 2 e , two-electron Cooper pairs. Here we report evidence for multicharge flux quantization in mesoscopic ring devices fabricated using the transition-metal kagome superconductor CsV 3 Sb 5 . We perform systematic magnetotransport measurements and observe unprecedented quantization of magnetic flux in units of h / 4 e and h / 6 e in magnetoresistance oscillations. Specifically, at low temperatures, magnetoresistance oscillations with period h / 2 e are detected, as expected from the flux quantization for charge- 2 e superconductivity. We find that the h / 2 e oscillations are suppressed and replaced by resistance oscillations with h / 4 e periodicity when the temperature is increased. Increasing the temperature further suppresses the h / 4 e oscillations, and robust resistance oscillations with h / 6 e periodicity emerge as evidence for charge- 6 e flux quantization. Our observations provide the first experimental evidence for the existence of multicharge flux quanta and emergent quantum matter exhibiting higher-charge superconductivity in the strongly fluctuating region above the charge- 2 e Cooper pair condensate, revealing new insights into the intertwined and vestigial electronic order in kagome superconductors. Dual quantum spin Hall insulator by density-tuned correlations in TaIrTe 4

The convergence of topology and correlations represents a highly coveted realm in the pursuit of new quantum states of matter. Introducing electron correlations to a quantum spin Hall (QSH) insulator can lead to the emergence of a fractional topological insulator and other exotic time-reversal-symmetric topological order, not possible in quantum Hall and Chern insulator systems. Here, in this study, we report a new dual QSH insulator within the intrinsic monolayer crystal of TaIrTe 4 , arising from the interplay of its single-particle topology and density-tuned electron correlations. At charge neutrality, monolayer TaIrTe 4 demonstrates the QSH insulator, manifesting enhanced nonlocal transport and quantized helical edge conductance. After introducing electrons from charge neutrality, TaIrTe 4 shows metallic behaviour in only a small range of charge densities but quickly goes into a new insulating state, entirely unexpected on the basis of the single-particle band structure of TaIrTe 4 . This insulating state could arise from a strong electronic instability near the van Hove singularities, probably leading to a charge density wave (CDW). Remarkably, within this correlated insulating gap, we observe a resurgence of the QSH state. The observation of helical edge conduction in a CDW gap could bridge spin physics and charge orders. The discovery of a dual QSH insulator introduces a new method for creating topological flat minibands through CDW superlattices, which offer a promising platform for exploring time-reversal-symmetric fractional phases and electromagnetism.

Chern Fermi pocket, topological pair density wave, and charge-4e and charge-6e superconductivity in kagomé superconductors

Abstract The recent discovery of novel charge density wave (CDW) and pair density wave (PDW) in kagomé lattice superconductors A V 3 Sb 5 ( A = K, Rb, Cs) hints at unexpected time-reversal symmetry breaking correlated and topological states whose physical origin and broader implications are not understood. Here, we make conceptual advances toward a mechanism behind the striking observations and new predictions for novel macroscopic phase coherent quantum states. We show that the metallic CDW state with circulating loop currents is a doped orbital Chern insulator near van Hove filling. The emergent Chern Fermi pockets (CFPs) carry concentrated Berry curvature and orbital magnetic moment. We find that the pairing of electrons on the CFPs leads to a superconducting state with an emergent vortex-antivortex lattice and the formation of a complex triple- Q PDW. A plethora of correlated and topological states emerge, including a never-before-encountered chiral topological PDW superconductor, a loop-current pseudogap phase, and vestigial charge-4 e and charge-6 e superconductivity in staged melting of the vortex-antivortex lattice and hexatic liquid crystal. Our findings reveal previously unknown nature of the superconducting state of a current-carrying Chern metal, with broad implications for correlated and topological materials.

Discovery of conjoined charge density waves in the kagome superconductor CsV3Sb5

Abstract The electronic instabilities in CsV 3 Sb 5 are believed to originate from the V 3 d -electrons on the kagome plane, however the role of Sb 5 p -electrons for 3-dimensional orders is largely unexplored. Here, using resonant tender X-ray scattering and high-pressure X-ray scattering, we report a rare realization of conjoined charge density waves (CDWs) in CsV 3 Sb 5 , where a 2 × 2 × 1 CDW in the kagome sublattice and a Sb 5 p -electron assisted 2 × 2 × 2 CDW coexist. At ambient pressure, we discover a resonant enhancement on Sb L 1 -edge (2 s →5 p ) at the 2 × 2 × 2 CDW wavevectors. The resonance, however, is absent at the 2 × 2 × 1 CDW wavevectors. Applying hydrostatic pressure, CDW transition temperatures are separated, where the 2 × 2 × 2 CDW emerges 4 K above the 2 × 2 × 1 CDW at 1 GPa. These observations demonstrate that symmetry-breaking phases in CsV 3 Sb 5 go beyond the minimal framework of kagome electronic bands near van Hove filling.
