Landing rates for mixed STOL and CTOL traffic

A study was made to determine the expected landing rate for STOL-only traffic and mixed STOL-CTOL traffic. The conditions used vary from present day standards to an optimistic estimate of possible 1985 conditions. A computer program was used to determine the maximum landing rate for the specified conditions and aircraft mix. The results show that the addition of STOL on a CTOL runway increases the total landing rate if the STOL airborne spacing can be reduced by use of improved navigation equipment. Further, if both takeoff and landings are performed on the same runway, the addition of STOL traffic will allow an increase in the total operation rate, even with existing spacing requirements.

Variable dimension automatic synthesis programs (VASP)

Variable dimension FORTRAN 4 version of the Automatic Synthesis Program (ASP) compensates for limitations within the program itself. Improvements are versatile programming language, convenient input/output format, new subprograms, variable dimensioning, and efficient storage.

Users manual for the Variable dimension Automatic Synthesis Program (VASP)

A dictionary and some problems for the Variable Automatic Synthesis Program VASP are submitted. The dictionary contains a description of each subroutine and instructions on its use. The example problems give the user a better perspective on the use of VASP for solving problems in modern control theory. These example problems include dynamic response, optimal control gain, solution of the sampled data matrix Ricatti equation, matrix decomposition, and pseudo inverse of a matrix. Listings of all subroutines are also included. The VASP program has been adapted to run in the conversational mode on the Ames 360/67 computer.
