On the crystal phases of /DEPE/ /TCNQ/4

X-ray powder diffraction studies of two semiconducting crystal phases in the organic charge transfer salt (DEPE)(TCNQ) sub 4 has revealed almost identical electrical properties to those of metallic crystals. It is hypothesized that the similarity arises from the nature of the measurements themselves, i.e., electrode geometry. The possibility that a separate metallic phase for (DEPE)(TCNQ) sub 4 exists, is not, however, ruled out.

Radio astronomy Explorer-B postlaunch attitude operations analysis

The attitude support activities of the Radio Astronomy Explorer-B are reported. The performance of the spacecraft hardware and software are discussed along with details of the mission events, from launch through main boom deployment. Reproductions of displays are presented which were used during support activities. The interactive graphics proved the support function by providing the quality control necessary to ensure mission success in an environment where flight simulated ground testing of spacecraft hardware cannot be performed.

Performance of the new Efratom optically pumped rubidium frequency standards and their possible application in space relativity experiments

The characteristics of Efratom optically pumped rubidium frequency standards are discussed. The Efratom units were compared with cesium beam and hydrogen maser standards and showed a stability of approximately 5 times 10 to the minus 12th power over two one-week periods. Dependency of frequency upon the environmental parameters of pressure, magnetic field, temperature, supply voltage, and acceleration was measured. A package of three units with automatic phase comparison and recording was designed and constructed to allow a measurement of relativistic effects on time with high accuracy during space missions.
