Closed form evaluation of symmetric two-sided complex integrals

Evaluation of two-sided complex integrals is often required when analyzing linear systems to determine signal variances resulting from stochastic inputs and system noise bandwidths. Algebraic solutions of integrals in a closed matrix equation form, using coefficients of the numerator and denominator polynomials, are presented. The closed forms provide the possibility of obtaining some insight into parameter sensitivity in addition to greatly reducing the computational complexity required by the normal method of evaluation by residues.

Precision signal power measurement

Accurate estimation of signal power is an important Deep Space Network (DSN) consideration. Ultimately, spacecraft power and weight is saved if no reserve transmitter power is needed to compensate for inaccurate measurements. Spectral measurement of the received signal has proved to be an effective method of estimating signal power over a wide dynamic range. Furthermore, on-line spectral measurements provide an important diagnostic tool for examining spacecraft anomalies. Prototype equipment installed at a 64-m-diameter antenna site has been successfully used to make measurements of carrier power and sideband symmetry of telemetry signals received from the Mariner Mars 1971 spacecraft.

Minicomputer-controlled programmed oscillator

Two programmed oscillators have been constructed, each using a low-cost minicomputer for the calculation and control functions, and each contained in a single rack of equipment. They are capable of operation in a phase-tracking mode as well as a frequency-tracking mode. When given an ephemeris suitable for the planet Venus, these units maintained phase coherence of better than 5 deg rms at 2388 MHz.

Digital frequency counter permits readout without disturbing counting process

Digital frequency counter system enables readout accurately at one-second intervals without interrupting or disturbing the counting process. The system incorporates a master counter and a slave counter with novel logic interconnections. The counter can be readily adapted to provide frequency readouts at 0.1 second intervals.
