High temperature and high beam current compatible targets and methods thereof for generating noble gas/radiohalogen generators for medical isotopes

A method of providing alpha particle emitters and materials suitable for use in generating the alpha particles for medical treatment is disclosed. Metal oxide targets, preferentially Bi 2 O 3 pellets and Bi 2 O 3 coatings on metallic or metal oxide substrates are formed. The targets placed in a heated vacuum chamber subjecting to irradiation using a 6 Li beam at an elevated temperature below the melting point of the target generate a radioactive gas, such as 211 Rn, the radioactive gas is carried by an inert gas which is delivered a carrier for, such as a carbon column or oil for delivery to a treatment facility. The radioactive gas such as 211 Rn generates 211 At, which has a useable half-life of at least about 14 hours, in turn releases alpha particles which are effective for use in medical procedures.

Removable smart sequestration coatings for hazardous metals

Materials are disclosed for the safe sequestration and removal of hazardous contaminants from a surface. The materials can be sprayed, rolled, painted, brushed or dip coated onto any surface and allowed to dry and/or cure at room temperature or drying/curing can be accelerated by the application of heat to form a coating that entraps the contaminant therein. The coating and the entrapped contaminant can then peeled from the surface and safely disposed of to minimize hazardous waste. The coating includes a colorimetric additive that is specific to the contaminant, the coating and the contaminant producing a visual indication of contamination.

Environmentally-Friendly Fixatives with Embedded Intelligence for Dust Management at Contaminated Sites – 21266

Wind or rain can potentially spread loose hazardous contaminants from piles of rubble and soil waiting to be trucked to a landfill site for disposal. Water, which is plentiful near remediation sites, is the traditional dust suppressant during demolition, post-demolition sizing and encapsulation as well as soil trucking activities. However, water can mobilize the toxic metal contaminants in the soil into the ground water. Ground water is highly regulated and contaminant removal is costly. InnoSense LLC (ISL) is developing DustSafe™ as a cost-effective alternative to water for various decontamination & decommissioning (D&D) applications. It is a sprayable dust abatement solution designed to actively trap, remediate, and aid in visualizing hazardous materials while preventing their dispersion by wind, water or impact. Aside from application as a dust suppressant to trap airborne toxic and radiological hazards during demolition activities, with customization DustSafe can be used to locate/characterize and remediate hazards prior to D&D activities.
