Tools for describing the reference architecture for space data systems

This paper has briefly presented the Reference Architecture for Space Data Systems (RASDS) that is being developed by the CCSDS Systems Architecture Working Group (SAWG). The SAWG generated some sample architectures (spacecraft onboard architectures, space link architectures, cross-support architectures) using this RASDS approach, and RASDS was proven to be a powerful tool for describing and relating different space data system architectures.

Architecture of a distributed multimission operations system

This paper presents an architecture to develop a multimission operations systems, which we call DIOSA. In this architecture, a component used as a building block is called a functional block. Each functional block has a standard structure, and the interface between functional blocks are defined with a set of standard protocols. This paper shows the structure of the database used by functional blocks, the structure of interfaces between functional blocks, and the structure of system management. Finally, examples of typical functional blocks and an example of a system constructed with this architecture is shown.

Ground data system for Space Flyer Unit (SFU)

The Space Flyer Unit (SFU) is an unmanned, multi-purpose, retrievable and reusable space platform. The first mission of SFU (SFU-1) will be launched by NASDA's H-2 launch vehicle in early 1995 and retrieved by NASA's Space Shuttle after several months in orbit. Two Japanese ground stations, several ground stations belonging to NASA, and a ground station in Chile will be used for tracking of SFU-1. The control center of SFU-1 is the Sagamihara Operations Center (SOC) of ISAS located in Sagamihara, Japan. This paper describes the tracking and data acquisition network for SFU-1, the configuration and design policy of the SFU operations control system, and data processing schemes used for mission operations of SFU.

The experiment of CCSDS packet telemetry using a highly elliptical orbit satellite 'Hiten'

This paper describes the outline of the telemetry scheme proposed by the Consultative Committee of Space Data Systems (CCSDS), and the on-orbit experiment which was carried out to show the applicability of the CCSDS packet telemetry scheme using the Japan's satellite Hiten in a highly elliptical orbit. The telemetry data which are generated by the instruments are packetized in Hiten and reformed to the original data in earth stations successfully. The experimental results showed that the standardized scheme is helpful in allowing for tracking cross support between organizations, and the concatenated code is quite effective to transmit data in a low C/N condition.
