SuperKEKB beam final focus superconducting magnet system

The SuperKEKB was designed and constructed as the upgraded accelerator of KEKB. In this accelerator design, the nano-beam scheme of collision was applied and a luminosity of 8 x10 35 cm -2 s -1 was targeted. In the design, the beam final focus system was the key component in the accelerator hardware elements. This final focus system consists of 55 superconducting magnets. In this paper, the designs of the magnets, the cryostats and the cryogenic system are shown, and the field measurement results are reported. The SuperKEKB beam operation with the final focus system started on 2018 March 19, and the magnet quench events up to 2020 December 16 are described.

Investigation of boundary layer and turbulence characteristics inside the passages of an axial flow inducer

A study of the boundary layer and turbulence characteristics inside the passages of an axial flow inducer is reported. The first part deals with the analytical and experimental investigation of the boundary layer characteristics in a four bladed flat plate inducer passage operated with no throttle. An approximate analysis for the prediction of radial and chordwise velocity profiles across the passage is carried out. The momentum integral technique is used to predict the gross properties of the boundary layer. Equations are given for the exact analysis of the turbulent boundary layer characteristics using the turbulent field method. Detailed measurement of boundary layer profiles, limiting streamline angle and skin friction stress on the rotating blade is also reported. Part two of this report deals with the prediction of the flow as well as blade static pressure measurements in a three bladed inducer with cambered blades operated at a flow coefficient of 0.065. In addition, the mean velocity and turbulence measurements carried out inside the passage using a rotating triaxial probe is reported.

Turbulent boundary layer on a rotating helical blade.

Investigation of the boundary-layer characteristics on a helical blade of large chord length, enclosed in an annulus and rotating in a fluid otherwise at rest. The three-dimensional form of momentum integral equations is derived, and is used to predict the boundary-layer growth and limiting streamline angles on the blade surface. The measurements are in general agreement with the predictions. The wall shear stress correlation, which includes both Reynolds number and rotation parameters, valid for a rotating blade operating at zero pressure gradient, is derived. Radial and tangential velocity profiles, the tangential component of turbulence intensity, and blade static pressures are measured at several locations on the blade surface. The nature of flow near the blade tip is discussed. An expression for the radial velocity profile, valid in the outer region of the boundary layer, is derived theoretically.
