Ray-Tracing Simulation and In-Orbit Performance of the ASTRO-H Hard X-Ray Telescope (HXT)

A ray-trace simulation code for the Hard X-ray Telescope (HXT) on board the Hitomi (ASTRO-H) satellite is beingdeveloped. The half power diameter and effective area simulated based on the code are consistent with groundmeasurements within 10%. The HXT observed the pulsar wind nebula G21.5-0.9 for 105 ksec. We confirmed that theencircled energy function and the half power diameter obtained from the data are consistent with the ground measurements.

ASCA X-ray observations of pre-main-sequence stars

The results of recent Advanced Satellite for Cosmology and Astrophysics (ASCA) X-ray observations of two pre-main sequence stars are presented: the weak emission line T Tauri star HD 142361, and the Herbig Ae star HD 104237. The solid state imaging spectrometer spectra for HD 142361 shows a clear emission line from H-like Mg 7, and spectral fits reveal a multiple temperature plasma with a hot component of at least 16 MK. The spectra of HD 104237 show a complex temperature structure with the hottest plasma at temperatures of greater than 30 MK. It is concluded that mechanisms that predict only soft X-ray emission can be dismissed for Herbig Ae stars.

Method of preventing oxidation of graphite fireproof material

A method of preventing oxidation of graphite fireproof material is given. A blend of 1 to 33 weight parts alumina and 3 to 19 parts of K2O + Na2O in 100 parts of SiO2 is pulverized followed by addition of 5 to 160 parts of silicon carbide powder in 100 parts of the mixture. This is thoroughly blended and coated on the surface of graphite fireproof material.
