Search for Solar Boosted Dark Matter Particles at the PandaX-4T Experiment

We present a novel constraint on light dark matter utilizing 1.54 metric ton/year of data acquired from the PandaX-4T dual-phase xenon time projection chamber. This constraint is derived through detecting electronic recoil signals resulting from the interaction with solar-enhanced dark matter flux. Low-mass dark matter particles, lighter than a few MeV / c 2 , can scatter with the thermal electrons in the Sun. Consequently, with higher kinetic energy, the boosted dark matter component becomes detectable via contact scattering with xenon electrons, resulting in a few keV energy deposition that exceeds the threshold of PandaX-4T. We calculate the expected recoil energy in PandaX-4T considering the Sun’s acceleration with heavy mediators and the detection capabilities of the xenon detector. The first experimental search results using the xenon detector yield the most stringent upper limits cross section of 3.51 × 10 − 39 cm 2 at 0.08 MeV / c 2 for a solar boosted dark matter mass ranging from 0.02 to 10 MeV / c 2 , achieving a 23-fold improvement compared with earlier experimental studies. Overview of the recent experimental research on the J-TEXT tokamak

The J-TEXT capability is enhanced compared to two years ago with several upgrades of its diagnostics and the increase of electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) power to 1 MW. With the application of electron cyclotron wave (ECW), the ECW assisted plasma startup is achieved; the tearing mode is suppressed; the toroidal injection of 300 kW ECW drives around 24 kA current; fast electrons are generated with toroidal injected ECW and the runaway current conversion efficiency increases with ECRH power. The mode coupling between 2/1 and 3/1 modes are extensively studied. The coupled 2/1 and 3/1 modes usually lead to major disruption. Their coupling can be either suppressed or avoided by external resonant magnetic perturbation fields and hence avoids the major disruption. It is also found that the 2/1 threshold of external field is significantly reduced by a pre-excited 3/1 mode, which can be either a locked island or an external kink mode. The disruption control is studied by developing prediction methods capable of cross tokamak application and by new mitigation methods, such as the biased electrode or electromagnetic pellet injector. The high-density operation and related disruptions are studied from various aspects. Approaching the density limit, the collapse of the edge shear layer is observed and such collapse can be prevented by applying edge biasing, leading to an increased density limit. The density limit is also observed to increase, if the plasma is operated in the poloidal divertor configuration or the plasma purity is increased by increasing the pre-filled gas pressure or ECRH power during the start-up phase.

Visualizing the SEI formation between lithium metal and solid-state electrolyte

The solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is regarded as the most important factor affecting the durability of lithium-metal anode in all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs). Despite its significance, the nucleation and growth mechanism of SEI is not yet well understood. Here, we elucidate the thermodynamics and kinetics governing SEI formation at the Li|β-Li 3 PS 4 interface at the atomic scale via thermodynamic phase equilibrium analysis and machine-learning-potential-assisted molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. An accurate moment tensor potential using the machine-learning method is developed for a reactive model of Li|β-Li 3 PS 4 . This potential enabled us to perform large-scale MD simulations with the model size expanded to the experimental dimensions (~40 nm) while maintaining the same level of accuracy as density functional theory calculations. The results reveal a four-stage evolution process at the Li|β-Li 3 PS 4 interface, namely (i) fast ion diffusion, (ii) nucleation, (iii) Li 2 S growth, and (iv) stabilization. Notably, we demonstrate that the SEI can be categorized into crystalline and amorphous regions. The simulated SEI thickness, structure, and composition closely match experimental findings, validating the accuracy of the MD simulations. We further disclose the significant impact of ion diffusion kinetic limitations on the phase formation and crystallization of interfacial products. Furthermore, we shed light on the detailed potential energy (PE) distribution of lithium along the direction perpendicular to the interface. Finally, this information is crucial for better understanding interfacial ion mobility.
