Oval-cycloidal Magnetic Structure with Phase-shift in the Non-centrosymmetric Tetragonal Compound CePdSi 3

CePdSi 3 with H // [100] exhibits multiple metamagnetic transitions. Since there is no frustration in this system, it is suggested that the origin of the multiple metamagnetic transitions is the influence of the antisymmetric spin–orbit interaction. To clarify the magnetic structure under the influence of the antisymmetric spin–orbit interaction, neutron diffraction experiments have been performed using single crystal samples of CePdSi3. There are observed magnetic reflections with incommensurate magnetic propagation vector q=(0.315,0,0) in the phase I. In addition, additional magnetic reflections were also observed in the phase III. The magnetic structure was found to be an oval-cycloidal structure at the phase III in CePdSi 3 , and we discuss the origin of the unusual magnetic structure.

Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties of the Breathing Kagome Ising Antiferromagnet Yb 3 Ni 11 Ge 4.63

We have investigated magnetic properties of the rare-earth based intermetallic compound Yb 3 Ni 11 Ge 4.63 (YNG), where Yb 3+ ions form a breathing-kagome lattice. Single-site 4f electron wavefunctions of the ground-state doublet are deduced from magnetization and heat capacity measurements. The Weiss temperatures are quite anisotropic as Θ a = -0.01(2) K (H ∥ a) and Θ c = -0.67(2) K (H ∥ c), indicating Ising-like spin–spin interactions dominating in this compound. Low-temperature neutron diffraction confirms absence of magnetic Bragg peaks down to 0.05 K, whereas enhancement of broad peaks below 0.8 K was observed, a signature of short-range spin correlations. Furthermore, competing interactions on the breathing-kagome lattice would suppress a magnetic long-range order in YNG.

Numerical simulation of viscous flows over transonic aircraft configurations

Numerical simulation of compressible viscous flow fields is performed for a transonic transport configuration. A single structured grid system is constructed using analytical transformations such as conformal mapping, shearing/twisting/rotating/clustering/stretching transformations. The Reynolds-averaged, thin-layer Navier-Stokes equations are solved on a supercomputer, FACOM VP-400, using the LU-ADI factorization method.
