2,3-Diphenylthieno[3,4-b]pyrazines as Hole-Transporting Materials for Stable, High-Performance Perovskite Solar Cells

High-performance and durable perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have advanced rapidly, enabled in part by the development of superior interfacial hole-transporting layers (HTLs). Here, in this study, a new series of 2,3-diphenylthieno[3,4-b]pyrazine (DPTP)-based small molecules containing bis- and tetrakis-triphenyl amino donors (1–3) was synthesized from simple, low-cost, and readily available starting materials. The matched energy levels, ideal surface topographies, high hole mobilities of 8.57 × 10 –4 cm 2 V –1 S –1 , and stable chemical structures of DPTP-4D (3) make it an effective hole-transporting material, delivering a PCE of 20.18% with high environmental, thermal, and light-soaking stability when compared to the reference HTL materials, doped Spiro-OMeTAD and PTAA in PSC n-i-p planar devices. Overall, these DPTP-based molecules are promising HTM candidates for the fabrication of stable PSCs.

Highly stretchable organic electrochemical transistors with strain-resistant performance

Realizing fully stretchable electronic materials is central to advancing new types of mechanically agile and skin-integrable optoelectronic device technologies. Here we demonstrate a materials design concept combining an organic semiconductor film with a honeycomb porous structure with biaxially prestretched platform that enables high-performance organic electrochemical transistors with a charge transport stability over 30-140% tensional strain, limited only by metal contact fatigue. In this work, the prestretched honeycomb semiconductor channel of donor-acceptor polymer poly(2,5-bis(2-octyldodecyl)-3,6-di(thiophen-2-yl)-2,5-diketo-pyrrolopyrrole-alt-2,5-bis(3-triethyleneglycoloxy-thiophen-2-yl) exhibits high ion uptake and completely stable electrochemical and mechanical properties over 1,500 redox cycles with 10(4) stretching cycles under 30% strain. Invariant electrocardiogram recording cycles and synapse responses under varying strains, along with mechanical finite element analysis, underscore that the present stretchable organic electrochemical transistor design strategy is suitable for diverse applications requiring stable signal output under deformation with low power dissipation and mechanical robustness. Highly stretchable organic electrochemical transistors with stable charge transport under severe tensional strains are demonstrated using a honeycomb semiconducting polymer morphology, thereby enabling controllable signal output for diverse stretchable bioelectronic applications.

Triphenylamine/benzothiadiazole-based compounds for non-doped orange and red fluorescent OLEDs with high efficiencies and low efficiency roll-off

Long-wavelength materials are key for development of pure-color and white organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs). An organic molecule, combining hybridized local electron and charge-transfer (HLCT) states and aggregation-induced emission (AIE), not only breaks the 5% external quantum efficiency (EQE) limit but also overcomes emission quenching. Herein, we designed and synthesized four novel donor–acceptor compounds of TBAN, TBT, TBAT, and TABAT using triphenylamine (TPA) as the donor, benzothiadiazole (BT) as the acceptor, and anthracene (AN) as a bridge. We found that the emission peaks of TBAN, TBT, TBAT and TABAT are located at 596, 615, 580 and 546 nm, respectively. We successfully applied them to non-doped OLEDs, and the resulting devices exhibited excellent performance. For example, the optimal TBAN-based OLEDs showed a maximum luminance of 74 820 cd m –2 , a current efficiency of 12.1 cd A –1 and a maximum EQE of 5.7% with low roll-off. Additionally, the device with TBAN as both the emitter and hole-transport material also exhibited high efficiency that is comparable to that of an NPB-based device. Furthermore, this work demonstrates that it is feasible to obtain excellent orange and red emitters by employing BT- and TPA-based D–A architectures.
