Magnon gap tuning in lithium-doped MnTe

Manganese telluride (MnTe) is a prospective platform for ultrafast carrier dynamics, spin-based thermoelectrics, and magnon-drag transport due to its unique electronic and magnetic properties. We use inelastic neutron scattering to study both pure and lithium-doped MnTe, focusing on the influence of doping in opening a magnon gap. We use neutron powder diffraction to determine critical exponents for the phase transition in both pure and Li-doped MnTe and complement this information with muon spin rotation/relaxation. In conclusion, the opening of the magnon gap and spin reorientation in Li-doped MnTe is mainly due to increased magnetic anisotropy along the [001] axis, a feature not present in pure MnTe.

Topological monopole's gauge field‐induced anomalous Hall effect in artificial honeycomb lattice

Abstract Vortex magnetic structure in artificial honeycomb lattice provides a unique platform to explore emergent properties due to the additional Berry phase curvature imparted by chiral magnetization to circulating electrons via direct interaction. We argue that while the perpendicularly aligned magnetic component leads to the quantized flux of monopole at the center of the Berry sphere, the in‐plane vortex circulation of magnetization gives rise to unexpected nontrivial topological Berry phase due to the gauge field transformation. The unprecedented effect signifies the importance of vector potential in multiply connected geometrical systems. Experimental confirmations to proposed hypotheses are obtained from Hall resistance measurements on permalloy honeycomb lattice. Investigation of the topological gauge transformation due to the in‐plane chirality reveals anomalous quasi‐oscillatory behavior in Hall resistance as a function of perpendicular field. The oscillatory nature of is owed to the fluctuation in equilibrium current as a function of Fermi wave‐vector , envisaged under the proposed new formulation in this article. Our synergistic approach suggests that artificially tunable nanostructured material provides new vista to the exploration of topological phenomena of strong fundamental importance. Magnetic charge and geometry confluence for ultra-low forward voltage diode in artificial honeycomb lattice

We report spin diode is important prerequisite to practical manifestation of spin electronics. Yet, a functioning magnetic diode at room temperature is still illusive. Here, we reveal diode-type phenomena due to magnetic charge mediated conduction in artificial honeycomb geometry, made of concave shape single domain permalloy element. We find that honeycomb lattice defies symmetry by populating vertices with low and high multiplicity magnetic charges, causing asymmetric magnetization, in applied current of opposite polarity. High multiplicity units create highly resistive network, thereby inhibiting magnetic charge dynamics propelled electrical conduction. However, practical realization of this effect requires modest demagnetization factor in constituting element. Concave structure fulfills the condition. Subsequently, magnetic diode behavior emerges across broad thermal range of T = 40 K–300 K. The finding is a departure from the prevailing notion of spin-charge interaction as the sole guiding principle behind spintronics. Consequently, a new vista, mediated by magnetic charge interaction, is envisaged for spintronic research.

Various facets of magnetic charge correlation: Micromagnetic and distorted-wave Born approximation simulations study

The emergent concept of the magnetic charge quasiparticle provides a new realm to study the evolution of magnetic properties in two-dimensional artificially frustrated magnets. Here we report on the exploration of magnetic phases due to various magnetic charge correlation using the complementary numerical techniques of micromagnetic and distorted-wave Born approximation simulations in artificial permalloy honeycomb lattice. The honeycomb element length varies between 10 nm and 100 nm, while the width and thickness are kept within the single domain limit. In addition to the charge ordered loop state, we observe disordered charge arrangement, characterized by the random distribution of ±Q charges, in single domain size honeycomb lattice. As the length of the honeycomb element increases, low multiplicity magnetic charges tend to form contiguous bands in thinner lattice. Thin honeycomb lattice with 100 nm element length exhibits a perfect spin ice pattern, which remains unaffected by the modest increase in the width of element size. We simulate scattering profiles under the pretext of distorted-wave Born approximation formalism for the micromagnetic phases. The results are expected to provide useful guidance in the experimental investigation of magnetic phases in an artificial honeycomb magnet.

Local Spin Ice Order Induced Planar Hall Effect in Nd–Sn Artificial Honeycomb Lattice

Geometrically frustrated materials, such as spin ice or kagome lattice, are known to exhibit exotic Hall effect phenomena due to spin chirality. For the first time, Hall effect mechanism is explored in an artificial honeycomb spin ice of Nd–Sn element using Hall probe and polarized neutron reflectivity measurements. In an interesting observation, a strong enhancement in Hall signal at relatively higher temperature of T ~20 K is detected. The effect is attributed to the planar Hall effect due to magnetic moment configuration in spin ice state in low field application. In the antiferromagnetic state of neodymium at low temperature, applied field induced coupling between atomic Nd moments and conduction electrons in underlying lattice causes distinct increment in Hall resistivity at very modest field of H ~ 0.015 T. The experimental findings suggest the development of a new research vista to study the planar and the field induced Hall effects in artificial spin ice.

Quantum Disordered State of Magnetic Charges in Nanoengineered Honeycomb Lattice

Abstract A quantum magnetic state due to magnetic charges is never observed, even though they are treated as quantum mechanical variables in theoretical calculations. Here, the occurrence of a novel quantum disordered state of magnetic charges in a nanoengineered magnetic honeycomb lattice of ultra‐small connecting elements is demonstrated. The experimental research, performed using spin resolved neutron scattering, reveals a massively degenerate ground state, comprised of low integer and energetically forbidden high integer magnetic charges, that manifests cooperative paramagnetism at low temperature. The system tends to preserve the degenerate configuration even under large magnetic field application. It exemplifies the robustness of disordered correlation of magnetic charges in a 2D honeycomb lattice. The realization of quantum disordered ground state elucidates the dominance of exchange energy, which is enabled due to the nanoscopic magnetic element size in nanoengineered honeycomb. Consequently, an archetypal platform is envisaged to study quantum mechanical phenomena due to emergent magnetic charges.
