High resolution of planetary observations.
Abstract
Some classical examples of good earth-based photographs of planets are presented and estimates of limiting resolution are made. Recent results from the International Planetary Patrol provide a comparison of some favorably situated observatories with one another. Observed resolutions can be interpreted in terms of a modulation transfer function, which provides a basis for deciding how improvements can be achieved. Some current attempts at improving earth-based resolution are described.
