Millimeter wave space communications - Recent experimental results and present development programs.
Abstract
Major results of millimeter wave propagation measurements conducted with the ATS-5 satellite are reviewed, and their impact on the design of operational millimeter wave communications systems is evaluated. Statistical results show attenuation probabilities in different localities at various intervals of observation in an attempt at correlation with precipitation conditions. Advanced millimeter wave propagation experiments currently under development for the ATS-F satellite are also discussed.
