Lunar glasses, breccias, and chondrules.

Abstract

Glasses from Apollo 11, 12, 14, and 15 soil samples have been grouped on the basis of their chemistry and appear to provide an independent tool for identifying the presence of various rock types. The glasses also appear to constitute a record of complex differentiation processes that seem to have taken place within the moon. A green glass, abundant in some samples from Hadley Delta, could have been formed from a previously proposed differentiation model. Four breccias are described briefly and certain similarities between impact features, including chondrules, in lunar samples and meteorites are noted.
