Second quadrant effects in silicon solar cells
Abstract
A simple model describing the behavior of a solar cell in the second quadrant of the I-V curve is described. In this mode of operation appreciable power is dissipated in the cell leading to thermal breakdown and the formation of hot spots. These hot spots will be stable in a current limited mode of operation. In addition a simple method is described to locate the hot spots.
