Test Method for X-Ray Telescopes

Abstract

Telescopes and X-ray telescopes in particular, tested with nearby point sources of radiation. When point-source rays enter telescope through annular entrance pupil (and under conditions of spherical aberration), ring image produced. Deviation of ring image from perfect circular shape reveals misalinements and surface inaccuracies in telescope. Although particularly suited for grazing-incidence types of systems, this test method applied to other types of optical systems.
