Turbulence for flight simulation
Abstract
The explicit role of third-order moments in the dynamical characteristics of the correlation structure of atmospheric turbulence is determined with a view to resolving the existing discrepancy between simulated and real turbulence. It is shown that third-order velocity-product moments provide a 'driving force' for the turbulence two-point velocity correlations, a force that is responsible for the unique features of the turbulence. Under select circumstances, third-order moments also reinforce the 'patchy' nature of turbulence.
