Properties of solar oscillations
Abstract
Many of the oscillations that can be observed in the atmosphere of the sun are resonant acoustic or gravity modes of the interior. Accurate measurement of the frequencies of these p and g modes permits deductions about the internal structure and dynamics of this star. Some of the methods of interpretation, involving a close interplay between observation and theory, can be carried over to the study of more distant stars.
