Consideration of Space Station requirements for tethers
Abstract
Space Station requirements with regard to tethers are discussed with attention given to environmental requirements and Space Station plasma considerations. Conducting tethers can be used for electrodynamic experiments, power generation, and propulsion. It is noted that the use of nonconducting tethers with plasma contactors will produce dynamic effects which may alter the relationship between the Space Station and the ambient plasma.
