Radiative heating rates in the tropical monsoon environment - A case study

Abstract

A study designed to investigate the radiative impact of high clouds through a combination of modeling and data analysis is presented. A series of high-altitude survey flights was conducted utilizing a NASA Ames ER-2 aircraft carrying a nadir-viewing narrow field-of-view radiometer, with channels at 6.5 and 10.5 microns. The two intensities obtained by this radiometer can be employed to deduce optical depth as described by Liou et. al. (1990).
