Shuttle evolution for the 1990's

Abstract

An evolutionary strategy for the Shuttle is presented which aims at achieving reliable low-cost transportation through a process of continuous enhancement and evolution of existing systems. The strategy is based on a methodology which supports the identification and quantitative assessment of potential Shuttle evolutionary paths. Key inputs supporting this methodology include candidate STS enhancements and the definition of long-term goals and requirements. Some of the proposed enhancements are discussed.
