Spatial spectra from a satellite scanning radiometer
Abstract
A method for computing spatial spectra from measurement based on a scanning radiometer is presented which takes into account the instrument field-of-view, time response, and the scan pattern. To compute the mean of the field, measurements away from nadir are weighted more heavily than those near nadir. The proposed method is capable of defining the limits beyond which the Fourier components cannot be extracted from the data. Results show that, for the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment scanning radiometer at an altitude of 600 km, spectral features with wavelengths greater than 100 km can be measured without errors due to incorporation of unobservable portions of the spectrum into results.
