Improved Composite Fabrication Process Minimizes Damage To Fibers
Abstract
Document describes improved process for making fiber/matrix composite materials, especially SiC-fiber/metal-matrix materials that fail gradually when overstressed. Gradual-failure characteristic imparted by coating fibers with relatively soft material that yields in compliance with deformations of matrix.
