Strain-Sensing Technology For High-Temperature Applications
Abstract
Paper reviews status of strain-sensing technology for high-temperature applications. Techniques discussed supported by NASA, such as those needed for applications in hypersonic vehicles and engines, advanced subsonic engines, and development of materials and structures for high temperatures. Applications involve temperatures from 540 degrees C (1,000 degrees F) to more than 1,400 degrees C (2,600 degrees F). Commercial resistance strain gauges do not give repeatable readings at temperatures above 400 degrees C (750 degrees F).
